The Spine Center at University of Colorado Hospital specializes in treating people with back and neck pain using proven therapies and the latest technologies.

Whether a patient needs physical therapy, medication, spinal injections or surgery, or any combination of these treatments, our skilled physicians and staff focus on making our patients feel better, happier and healthier in the safest manner possible.

We use a collaborative and multi-disciplinary approach among orthopaedic surgeons, physiatrists, physical/occupational therapists, psychologists, integrative medicine, and anesthesiologists.

Vice Chair and Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Dr. Venu Akuthota is Vice Chair, Associate Professor, and Pain Fellowship Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is quadruple board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Medicine and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Dr. Akuthota is the author of more than 50 publications, author/editor of two textbooks, and has spoken and chaired various national and regional conferences. He is a founding senior editor of the journal PM&R and and is currently a board member of the North American Spine Society and Musculoskeletal Council Chair for the American Academy of PM&R.

He offers expertise in the aggressive non-surgical management of low back and neck injuries through sports medicine and injection techniques.

Dr. Akuthota currently also serves as a team physician for University of Colorado Buffaloes and University of Denver Pioneers with the CU Sports Medicine Program.

Dr. Akuthota's primary research interests include the sacroiliac joint and using exercise to combat low-back injuries.
